The Squawk: Student Voices, School News – our new school newspaper

The MCS Squawk 8th Issue has been published and this is the first printed edition!

The MCS Squawk is a newspaper written by the students, for the students, in collaboration with the MCS digital hub. It focuses on current events in the school, students hobbies, and fostering a place for students to be creative. The team at the Squawk is made up of students, guided by teachers, and supported by the school.

This issue covers topics about science, fiction writing, meet the Squawk team, as well as the regular features of crosswords, Off the Record, book reviews and excellent student art work. 6th Year Graduation

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I hope you are well.

Great excitement here as we prepare to welcome you to the 6th Year Graduation tonight.

The ceremony will start at 7pm sharp in the Sport’s Hall.

There will be refreshments in the canteen following the ceremony. Thank you to the Parents Association for arranging this.

Parking will also be available in Broomfield, across the road from the school.

Short Story Award Winners

Congratulations to our 2026 Short Story Award winners Sarah Breen (Junior section winner) and Natalia Urbanczyk (Senior Winner).

The teachers in the English department were delighted with the creativity and originality shown by the winners and indeed, all entrants. The Short Story Award showcases the impressive and wide-ranging writing talent that students in our school have always displayed.

Retirement Congratulations

Congratulations to Padraig ‘Panner’ Mc Carthy on his retirement. Panner has spent over 30 years developing Gaelic Games in MCS. On behalf of all our students and teachers past and present, we would like to thank Panner and wish him all the best in his retirement.

MCS PA Plant Sale now on

The MCS PA plant sale has started! Thanks to all our parent volunteers who give so much time to this super fundraiser. Please come along and support the PA who raise vital funds for the school. Open until 6pm on Friday and it will continue on Saturday (10am to 6pm) and Sunday (11am to 3pm).

U14 Girls Basketball Wins

Congratulations to our U14 Girls Basketball team who had two amazing wins over St Leo’s and Scoil Chríost Rī today in Limerick to qualify for the All Ireland Final next Thursday. The girls played amazing Basketball and got to stop for a treat in Supermacs on the way home.

Well done, girls, and thank you to their coaches Mr Ingle and Mr Blake.

1st Year Girls Basketball

Well done to our 1st year ‘A’ girls Basketball team who travelled to Limerick this weekend to compete in the All-Ireland league playoffs. The girls had a very early start Saturday morning and were unlucky to lose their first game in double overtime by two points. However, the girls bounced back and had a great win in their second group game. This win put the girls into the plate quarter final on Sunday morning. The team won both the quarter-final and semi-final but unfortunately lost out on the final to a very strong team.

The girls had a great weekend full of basketball and even got to sneak in a game of bowling and mini golf!

Well done to the team on all their successes this year, and huge thanks to their coaches Mr Ingle and Christian McDonnell. We would also like to say a special thank you to past MCS student Ellie Doyle for coming down to help supervise the girls.

MCS Senior Hurling Team crowned Leinster League Champions

Huge Congratulations to our Senior Hurling Team that were crowned Leinster League Champions vs St.Fergal’s College, Rathdowney last week. It was an incredible team performance that saw the team winning on a scoreline of 1-19 to 1-16. We would like to specially mention our 6th Years students who represented our school for the final time. It was a very well-deserved victory for their commitment to sport in Malahide CS over the last 6 years.

Sincere thanks to Mr. Joyce, Mr. Moloney and Jason, St.Sylvesters GAA GPO, who looked after the team this year.

MCS wins AIMS Award

Congratulations to all our TY students on winning the Mentor’s Special Award at the AIMS Schools Awards last week. An adjudicator from the Association of Irish Musical Societies attended TY shows the length and breadth of the country. Our award was ‘for the whole concept and execution of a superb multi-personed Audrey II Plant’.

We are so proud of the work of all students in both the cast and crew of this year’s production.

Special thanks to Ms McNulty who conceived this very unique idea of a multi-personed Audrey II plant, along with Mr Flynn, Ms Keogh, Ms O’Riordan, Ms Dunne and Jean Gill our choreographer, all of whom dedicated countless hours to preparing our students for the show. Thanks also to Ms Wilson for the fantastic photos of the show.

MCS Prefects Dinner

After spending most of their lunchtimes sitting on the staircases and carrying out their prefect duties, the MCS 5th and 6th Year Prefects were treated to a dinner last week to reward them for their hard work throughout the year.
