MCS Girls Basketball Success!

Huge congratulations to the 1st and 2nd year ‘A’ girls Basketball teams who won their East Region finals yesterday.

Our 1st years beat Colaiste Brīde, and our 2nd years beat Dominican College in two great games.

Well done to all the players, their coaches Mr Ingle, and Christian McDonnell, and to all the supporters who came out to support the teams.

MCS Swimming Success

Congratulations to our first-year boys who came third in the Irish Senior Schools Relay Championship in the National Aquatic Centre on Sunday 24th March. This was a fantastic achievement for the boys, as there was a very high standard at the event. Well done to all involved!

MCS win Leinster Hockey Final!

Huge congratulations to the 1st year girls hockey team who won their Leinster final against Mount Anville. Well done to Zoe Carder for scoring the only goal of the match and to Robyn McGlone for captaining the team throughout the season. We are super proud of these girls.

MCS raises much needed funds raised for Oesophageal Cancer Fund

We are proud to announce that our recent Lollipop Day in aid of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund raised €1884.31. Thank you to all the students who bought lollipops in school, and to all the members of the community who supported our collection at Dunnes Stores, Portmarnock.

World Book Day celebrations in MCS

We had a wonderful day at MCS last Thursday 5th March celebrating World Book Day with a range of fun reading activities. Students took part in a whole-school “Drop Everything And Read” activity, enjoyed quiet time in our Reading Room and tested their listening skills in the popular Masked Reader Competition by guessing which teacher was behind each disguised voice. Around the school, displays of quotes from famous authors sparked conversations about favourite books and writers.

We had a fantastic celebration of stories and imagination, reminding us all of the importance of reading and the lifelong enjoyment it brings.

Thanks to Ms Cronin and the English Department for co-ordinating all of these wonderful activities.

Laps for Inclusion

MCS will be taking part in Laps for Inclusion on March 25th in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. Our 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th year students will be walking (or running!) laps of the campus to raise much needed funds for our Special Olympics athletes. Donations can be made through the MCS app. We appreciate your support for this worthy cause.

5th Year English Trip

On Monday, 9th March, our 5th Year students attended a screening of their Leaving Certificate play, Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’. This trip provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience a screening of Shakespeare’s tragedy, performed live on stage. It supplied each student with a much deeper analysis of key features and aspects of Leaving Certificate material. Movies@Swords Pavilions opened its theatre for us, especially. Students thoroughly enjoyed the performance and reported a much clearer and better understanding of the play, from seeing the dramatic tension, language, characters’ interactions and their relationships all brought to life. This outing supported our students in further developing their learning with a more significant understanding of the themes, plot and all dramatic techniques performed, giving them a greater analysis of the Shakespearean text as they dive deeper into the Leaving Certificate English course of study. This puts them in a much greater position as we head towards summer assessments and mock exams next year.

Thanks to Ms Porter, Ms Cronin, Ms Cummings and Ms Farrell, who organised the trip and supervised the students.
