The Digital Council

Since we introduced iPads to Malahide Community School in 2012 there has been an enormous effort from the management in the school to train staff on the use and benefits of iPads in an educational setting. Many teachers have taken this experience and made use of the various new technologies in the classroom with their students. As a result staff are now very tech-literate and confident in the use of their iPads and the software within. Many use these in a creative and innovate way to engage and educate their students.

Within the student body in the school there is a huge amount of knowledge, skill and talent that doesn’t always get passed on to their peers. Many students leave without ever sharing this rich vein of experience beyond a small circle of their friends. We feel that it is time for that to change. Our intention is that the Digital Council becomes a place where knowledge and skills are shared and passed down through the students in a continuous line from 6th to 1st years. With the help of this resource we know in time that students will use their voice to influence the direction that digital learning should take for the whole school and that the skills learned here will turn them into digital leaders an innovators beyond the boundaries of MCS.

The former TY Store room is the new home of the Digital Council, we’re calling it “the hub” and the school management have provided 4 state of the art Apple Mini desktops with 32 inch screens to get us started, it begins here… The digital council meets every Thursday during lunch.
