Reminder: Ban on E-Scooters at MCS from mon. 5th Jan. 2026.

January 1, 2026

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s) and Students,

We hope this notification finds you well.

Further to our App notification on 12/12/2025, this is a reminder that, following consultation with the Parents’ Association, our school will be implementing a ban on E-scooters for any student under the legal age of 16.

The ban will come into effect from Monday, 5th January, 2026.

This means that any student under the age of 16 years of age on or after that date will NOT be allowed to bring an E-scooter onto the school campus.

Please see the recent news item on RTÉ regarding the dangers of E-scooters:

Re: Students who are over 16 years of age:

Any student who is over 16 years of age, and who owns an E-scooter vehicle, can only bring it on campus with their Parent/Guardian’s knowledge AND Written consent.

This must be communicated to Ms Andrea Wilson, Year Head at: wilsona@malahidecs.ie before your child brings the vehicle onto school grounds.

Your email must contain the following information:

1. The Name, Year and Date of Birth of your child.

2. The Make, Model and Serial Identifier Number of the vehicle.

3. Your Written commitment that your child will wear a Helmet.

4. Your Written commitment that your child will ONLY enter the school grounds via the Entrance Gate AND will comply with our One Way system at all times.

5. Your Written commitment that your child will comply strictly with our Campus Speed Limit of 10 km per hour.

6. Your Written commitment that your child will park the E-scooter in the designated area at Scoil Íosa Hall and will lock their vehicle at all times.

Failure to supply any or all of the above will mean that your child will not be permitted to bring an E-scooter onto the school campus at any time.

The School reserves the right to confiscate any unregistered E-Scooter.

The School reserves the right to ban the use of an E-scooter by any student, at any time, regardless of age.

While students in our Road Safety TY Module have visited classes reminding students to exercise Road Safety in general, Parents/Guardians and Students should be aware of Road Safety Requirements with regards to E-scooter usage at all times.

Any student, therefore, who is over 16 years of age, and who intends bringing an E-scooter on site, must comply with the school’s correct Entrance and Exit gates protocols, our One Way System and the school’s 10km safety speed limits. The student must wear the correct protective helmet and must use a lock to secure their vehicle at all times.

These vehicles can only be parked in the designated area, opposite Scoil Íosa Hall.

Please note that any such vehicle brought onto the property is at the owner’s risk.

If you would like further information on this matter, please read SI 199 here:

Please direct any queries to Ms Andrea Wilson, Year Head (wilsona@malahidecs.ie) .

We appreciate your cooperation and support in keeping our whole school community safe and compliant with the law.

Kind regards,

MCS.
