Free Schoolbook Scheme (2025/26)

June 20, 2025

Dear Parent/Guardian,

You will NOT be required to purchase any school books or classroom resources for your son/daughter for the 2025/26 school year.

For the 2025/26 school year all students in post-primary schools will receive free schoolbooks and core classroom resources. These will be in place in time for the start of the new school year.

“Schoolbooks” includes all relevant schoolbooks, including ebooks for Junior and Senior cycle students including Transition Year.

(Where parents/guardians of 2nd, 3rd or 6th Year students currently own their schoolbooks or were provided with schoolbooks under the JC Schoolbooks scheme in 2024/25, these are to be used for 2025/26.)

Parents/Guardians of students commencing 2nd, 3rd and 6th Year may already have purchased, or under the JC Schoolbooks scheme students were provided with, a significant amount of the schoolbooks and classroom resources required. Any additional schoolbooks and core classroom resources required by students in these years will now be covered under the scheme.

NOTE: All schoolbooks and core classroom resources provided under the scheme will remain the property of the school so that they can be reused in future years (where applicable).

Schoolbooks will be provided on loan to students and must be returned to school at the end of the programme cycle.

Please remind your son/daughter to take care of their schoolbooks and classroom resources and keep them in good condition during the period that they are in their possession. It is NOT PERMITTED to write on schoolbooks.

Parent/Guardian is expected to cover the cost of replacing any lost/damaged books, beyond ordinary wear and tear. This includes damage caused by negligence or mishandling. (Please see attached policy for further information)

There may be some additional resources that are not covered by the scheme – these will be communicated via the relevant subject teacher if applicable.

Schoolbook policy attached for your reference.

Kind regards, MCS
