Flu Vaccination in school (ages 12-17)

October 9, 2025

Dear Parent/Legal Guardian,

McCabe’s Pharmacy Vaccination team will visit the school on Tuesday October 21st to administer the children’s flu vaccine.  The flu vaccine is recommended for all children between the ages of 2-17 years.  This vaccine is delivered via a nasal spray, one spray into each nostril and is called Fluenz.  It is safe and effective.  There is no charge for this vaccination.

Please find attached information about the flu and the vaccine.  Read this information carefully.

You can find more information on the vaccine for children and which children should not receive a vaccine at https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/flu/childrens-flu-vaccine/ or you can speak to your McCabes pharmacist.

To register your child for vaccination and to give your consent please visit the link below:

https://app.hashealth.com/booking/mccabes-pharmacy-yellow-walls/service/malahide-community-school-yellow-walls

Please note: The link will close at 12pm the day before the vaccination clinic. This is to allow us to review the consent forms and ensure we have all the details required.

Unfortunately, if you have not registered your child online for the vaccine by the required deadline, we will be unable to vaccinate your child on the day.  If your child has already received a flu vaccine since September this year, please do not consent for your child to receive a flu vaccine in school.

Please contact the McCabes vaccination team before your child is vaccinated if there are any changes in your child’s health.  If you have consented to vaccination, please let your vaccinator know before the date of vaccination if your child:

• has had influenza antiviral medications in the 48 hours before their vaccine is due, they should not get the vaccine.

• has an acute exacerbation of asthma, including increased wheezing and/or needed additional inhalers in the previous 72 hours they should not receive the nasal flu vaccine.

• has received a dose of the flu vaccine from their GP or Pharmacist since the consent form was completed.

• is unwell with a sudden fever (as vaccination should be delayed until recovery). If there are any questions or queries on this service, please email us at schools@mccabespharmacy.com,

Yours sincerely,

Denis O’Driscoll
