NB MCS Ban on E-scooters from Monday, 5th January, 2026.

December 12, 2025

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s) and Students,

We hope this notification finds you well.

Following consultation with the Parents’ Association, we wish to inform you that the school will be implementing a ban on E-scooters after Christmas, for any student under the legal age of 16.

The ban will come into effect from Monday, 5th January, 2026.

This means that any student under the age of 16 years of age on that date will NOT be allowed to bring an E-scooter onto the school campus.

Please see the recent news item on RTÉ regarding the dangers of E-scooters:

Re: Students who are over 16 years of age:

Any student who is over 16 years of age, and who owns an E-scooter vehicle, can only bring it on site with their Parent/Guardian’s knowledge and written consent.  This must be communicated to the Relevant Year Head, along with the Serial  Identifier Number of the vehicle.  We will share further information on this with you after Christmas.

Any student who is over 16 years of age, and who intends bringing an E-scooter on site, must comply with the schools’ correct Entrance and Exit gates protocols and safety speed limits and must wear the correct protective helmet.

The school reserves the right to ban the use of an E-scooter by any student, at any time, regardless of age.

These vehicles can only be parked in the designated area, opposite Scoill Íosa Hall.

Please note that any such vehicle brought onto the property is done so at the owner’s risk.

The students in our Road Safety TY Module are visiting classes reminding students to exercise Road Safety at all times.

If you would like further information on this matter, please read SI 199 here:

We appreciate your cooperation and support in keeping our whole school community safe and compliant with the law.

Kind regards,

MCS.
